LEXINGTON, Ky. (WBKO)-- The Franklin-Simpson Wildcats football team was completely blown out in the Class 4A state championship game last year 48-0 to Johnson Central.

As fate would have it, the Wildcats (12-3) and Golden Eagles (12-3) met for the second straight time in the final game. But on Saturday evening at Kroger Field in Lexington, the Cats would not be denied as they get some revenge on the defending state champ 35-21.

Junior Tre Bass was named championship MVP with 76 yards rushing, 73 yards receiving and three total touchdowns.

The Wildcats have been known for being a run-oriented team, the passing game was even more effective, as senior quarterback Rylan Thomas was 6-of-7, 195 yards passing and 2 total touchdowns (1 rushing, 1 passing). Jevon Covington collected 97 receiving yards.

The win was the Wildcats' third state title in program history and the first since 1980.
