BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO)-- Western Kentucky had six players score in double figures, led by Dee Givens' 27 points to push the Lady Toppers past West Virginia State 104-74 Thursday in E.A. Diddle Arena.
"The most important thing was not who we were playing it was how we were playing," WKU head coach Greg Collins said. "And so we wanted to make sure we were playing together, playing hard, pushing the tempo as much as we had those opportunities, and fortunately tonight we had a lot of those opportunities. We got out and ran and that's something we worked on."
Joining Givens in double figures were Alexis Brewer (14), Meral Abdelgawad (12), Raneem Elgedawy (11), and Jae'Lisa Allen (10), Terri Smith (10).
"I think everybody played pretty well. There's still some things we can work on. It was just good for them to get their jitters out now before we play Tuesday (against Louisville)."
Thursday also marked the debut of Collins and he witnessed his team shoot more than 60 percent for the game, collected 29 total assists, forced 20 turnovers.
This was WKU's only exhibition game and now set to open regular season play 7 p.m. Tuesday against No. 5 Louisville.
