BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) --- WKU freshman center Charles Bassey was named to the NABC All-District 11 First Team on Thursday, as announced by the National Association of Basketball Coaches.

It’s the second straight year WKU has had a first-team NABC All-District performer following Justin Johnson in 2017-18.

District 11 is made up of the teams in Conference USA, and voting is conducted by member coaches in the association.

The honor is the latest in an impressive awards haul for Bassey, a 6-foot-11, 245-pound native of Lagos, Nigeria.

He was named earlier this month as Conference USA Freshman of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, making him just the second player in the league history to win both in the same season.

Bassey was additionally named to the All-Conference USA First Team, All-Freshman Team and All-Defensive Team.

He’s also 1 of 5 national finalists – including the only freshman – for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year Award.

Bassey finished his first season on The Hill averaging 14.6 points, 10 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game while shooting 62.7 percent from the field.

He leads Conference USA in double-doubles (17) and ranks in the top 30 nationally in double-doubles, field-goal percentage, blocks per game, total blocks, rebounds per game, defensive rebounds per game and total rebounds.

The 18-year-old – one of the top-10 youngest players in the country – is the only player in the nation this season with at least 340 rebounds, 81 blocks and 27 steals.

He’s just the second freshman since 1992 – along with Anthony Davis – to average at least 14 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks while shooting at least 60 percent overall.

The center was named C-USA Freshman of the Week 10 times, tying the league record, and has more blocks by himself this season than 76 Division I teams.
