Hilltoppers down UT Martin in home opener

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO)-- For the first time this season, Western Kentucky played a basketball game with a full available roster, and they took down visiting UT Martin 86-71 Saturday night in E.A. Diddle Arena.

"It was the first game we had all our pieces (Saturday)," Head coach Rick Stansbury said. "I think that's our next step with this team. We've got to get some rhythm and some chemistry with guys playing together and figuring out that rotation off that bench a little bit."

The Skyhawks came out firing and had a 26-22 advantage with 11:52 in the first half, but the Hilltoppers went on a 25-11 scoring run to close out the half and never looked back to pick up their first win of the season.

WKU had four players score in double figures led by Taveion Hollingsworth (22), Desean Murray (18) in his first game back from his one-game suspension, Jared Savage (15), and Charles Bassey (15) who also had a game-high 9 rebounds.

The Hilltoppers will participate in the Myrtle Beach Invitational in Conway, SC. and meet Valparaiso on Thursday.
