FRANKLIN, Ky. (WBKO) --- Bowling Green captured the team championship at the Boys Region 3 Golf Tournament held Friday at Franklin Country Club. The Purples shot a team total of 307 for their first region title since 2014.
"I have four upperclassmen in my lineup that kind of set out this goal," Bowling Green coach Adam Whitt said. "Very proud of them and they were the catalyst in doing it. I have three guys that were 74, 74 and 76."
South Warren overcame Greenwood in a playoff hole to finish runner-up and punch its ticket to the state tournament.
"A lot of them didn't have their A game (Friday)," South Warren coach Lane Embry said. "But they kept with it, finished as strong as they could. We always tell them, 'You get us whatever you can get us today'. They did and that playoff hole they just showed up."
CM Mixon of South Warren earned medalist honors with the lowest individual score giving him his second straight regional crown.
"Feels good to build this momentum coming in," Mixon said. "The good thing that I took from (Friday) is know that I can play even better than this. This isn't my peak so I'm just going to use this as motivation for this next week and have to be even more focus (for state)."
Chase Wilson and Dalton Fiveash of Franklin-Simpson, along with Owen Stamper of ACS, qualified individually for next week's tournament.
The Leachman Buick-GMC State Golf Championships begins next week at Bowling Green Country Club.
