BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) --- Another very big honor for the state champion South Warren Spartans football team on Friday morning at the Spartans gymnasium.
As the MaxPreps Tour Of Champions presented by the Army National Guard honored the Spartans as one of just 50 high school football programs in the entire country.
"When you go undefeated, when you win your conference, when you win your state, when you go undefeated, when you play a team from Colorado successfully, that all adds up," said Todd Townsend of MaxPreps. "Our computer-generated system to say big W's and lights go off, we want to honor this team."
South Warren made the final cut of 50 out of approximately 10,000 high school football programs nationwide.
"This one's different," said Spartans Head Coach Brandon Smith. "We haven't experienced this one. To have MaxPreps come out and recognize us for one of the top 50 teams in the country...that's special."
The Spartans went 15-0 in winning the Class 5A State Championship at Kroger Field in Lexington last December, the school's second gridiron state title in the past three years.
"It's a great feeling to know that you achieved this with a group of brothers that you have," added South Warren Offensive Lineman/Defensive Lineman Trent Rice. "To see the smiles on peoples' faces and the school and the support that we have...it stll feels like yesterday (when we won the state title)."
