BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) --- Four Western Kentucky players scored in double figures as the Hilltoppers defeated Campbellsville University 91-66 in the Tops exhibition game opener Tuesday night at E.A. Diddle Arena.
WKU was without sophomore guard Taveion Hollingsworth as the school announced he would serve a one-game suspension for a violation of team rules.
Sophomore Josh Anderson led the Hilltoppers with 22 points and six steals while Jared Savage added 19 points. Savage, a former standout at Warren Central High School, sat out last season after transferring from Austin Peay.
Graduate transfer and former Auburn Tiger DeSean Murray added 14 points while highly-acclaimed freshman Charles Bassey posted a double-double, scoring 12 points, grabbing 11 rebounds, and blocking three shots.
WKU led 47-39 at halftime before opening up with a 16-7 run in the first eight minutes of the second half.
Hagen Tyler led Campbellsville with 19 points. Stephaun Adams added 17 points.
The Hilltoppers play their second and final exhibition game on Saturday at two p.m. against Kentucky Wesleyan at E.A. Diddle Arena
