BRASS, Inc. is the regional primary provider of services to victims/survivors of domestic violence and their children. Services include emergency shelter, crisis intervention, court advocacy, children's services, group and individual counseling, financial literacy, housing for the homeless.

How can I access domestic violence services including shelter?

What can the agency do to help a mom who has entered the shelter?
Assist with safety planning for mother and child, assist with legal options for protection, enroll child in school if school aged, assist with applying for public benefits, assist with job placement and transportation options, provide classes on budget and credit in order to build assets.

What happens when a mom leaves the shelter?
The agency operates two permanent housing programs. If eligible a family will be placed into safe housing that includes ongoing services. The agency also helps with applications for public and subsidized housing.

What is domestic violence?
Domestic violence is a pattern of behavior that involves the power and control of one individual over another individual in an intimate partner relationship.

Why does a woman stay in a violent relationship?
There are many reasons someone may choose to stay in a violent relationship, including but not limited to: the sense that she can change the abuser, love, fear of harm or fatal injury, fear for her children, lack of resources, lack of financial stability. Abusers often threaten to kill victims if they leave.
