Timothy Madden's attorney explains his decision to take case

According to Travis Lock, a phone call last Friday set a series of events in motion that would change his life forever.
"I was contacted by Mr. Madden inquiring as to whether or not I'd be willing to speak to Mr. Madden."
Lock said he spent the day trying to contact Kentucky State Police and the Allen County Commonwealth's Attorney Office.
It wasn't until Saturday that he was able to meet with Timothy Madden in the Barren County Jail, and later met with is family. He said it's terrible that a young life has already been lost in the case, but meeting his client's young children had a big affect on his decision.
"One of the things that left the greatest impressions on me and all of the things I had heard and encountered in the last 48 hours was the fact that Mr. Madden has a 7-year-old girl and a 4-month-old boy. He has children as well. Regardless, of the outcome in this case turns out to be. Those children, too, like many others, will have to go one with their lives and have to live through this. That left a very large impression on my heart," said Lock.
Lock didn't want to discuss evidence in the case, but he was willing to say a change of venue is something he may request.
"It's too premature to say at this time, whether or not a change of venue will be sought with certainty, but it is definitely a possibility."
The Bowling Green attorney knows being front and center in the middle of a case that has death penalty potential, paired with such gruesome charges, will be tough; but after a lot of thought and prayer, he says everyone deserves a competent attorney.
"This is something I've thought a great deal about, but Mr. Madden, like all others alleged to have committed a criminal offense, are entitled to a competent attorney. I make no apologies for providing that representation."
The case will be eligible for the death penalty if Madden is indicted by a grand jury, due to aggravating circumstances that surround the murder charge relating to Gabbi Doolin. Mainly, kidnapping. Under Kentucky law if a person is kidnapped, and no longer alive upon release, then the death penalty is a possibility.
The next time Lock will represent Madden will be next Wednesday for a preliminary hearing.
