Former Murray, Ky. teacher arrested for alleged inappropriate sexual relations with former student
MURRAY, Ky. (KFVS) - A former Murray teacher was arrested for alleged inappropriate sexual relations with a former student.
Jason Shelby was arrested on Wednesday, September 10 on a warrant charging him with third-degree rape and first-degree sexual abuse. He was taken to the Calloway County Jail.
According to Kentucky State Police, the investigation began in August 2018 when it received a report from the Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board alleging possible sexual relations between Shelby, who was a Murray High School teacher at the time, and at least two students.
Troopers say allegations of misconduct against Shelby date back as far as 2005; however, the first report was made to KSP in 2018.
Following the report to KSP, they say Shelby resigned from his position in October 2018.
According to troopers, after a victim recently came forward, they had enough evidence to get a warrant for Shelby.
In August, they say the former student reported being involved in a sexual relationship with Shelby while she was a student in 2008 and 2009. During that time, the victim was 15 and 16 years old.
Troopers got an arrest warrant for Shelby on Sept. 9.
