GoFundMe created for mother and baby injured in Bowling Green apartment fire
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) - A mother and her baby are still recovering from an apartment fire.
The morning of March 4th, just after 6, the Bowling Green Fire Department responded to a call of a fire observed from a nearby apartment building.
The residents of the apartment, a mother and her baby, we’re still inside when BGFD arrived on scene.
“It’s an 11-month-old baby,” said family friend and GoFundMe creator Esteffany Hernandez. “He just doesn’t know anything, he’s just in pain. I saw it and it just broke my heart.”
The mother and her child were both rescued by BGFD, and air evacuated to Vanderbilt hospital.
“The mom has first, and second degree burns while the baby has second degree burns,” said Hernandez. “His lungs are really swollen, and he had a lot of smoke inhalation.”
The fire engulfed the apartment’s interior, a place they have only called home for six months.
Now, on top of their recovery, they must find a new place to raise their 11-month-old son.
“You couldn’t see anything, it was just black,” said Hernandez, describing the scene of the apartment. “You couldn’t see anything, not a chair, not a couch. The walls were black. They lost everything.”
The family is being forced into a new start. To help smooth that transition, Hernandez started fundraising to help with the family’s expenses.
“It will help them start all over again,” said Hernandez. “Pay some of the medical expenses that they have and start all over. Since there is nothing that they can go to.”
The GoFundMe has a goal of $10,000 and can be found here.
