FRANKLIN, Ky. (WBKO) - A new mayor and an entirely new commission are set to take over in Franklin.

One incoming commissioner, Steve Butt, said transparency, cooperation and public safety will be among his top priorities.

“I’m going to be going to the regular commission meetings from now through the end of the year and I’m hoping to maybe get a grip on what’s gonna be happening and the way things are going to be left. I will work as hard at being a commissioner that I’ve worked as hard as my business all my life. And they can guarantee that and count on it,” said Butt, commissioner-elect for the City of Franklin.

City-county relationship

Butt said one of his biggest priorities is improving the relationship between city and county government.

Public safety

Butt also said he wants to address public safety.

“People want to move to a town that’s safe. I think our parks need to be safe, our streets need to be safe. Safety is kind of a big thing with me,” Butt said.

Traffic concerns

Butt’s plans include addressing heavy truck traffic through downtown and whether drivers can clearly see traffic signals.

“When you get in line behind a semi-trailer in a town the size of Franklin, you can’t see until your three cars behind you, so I’d like to see some side streetlights,” Butt said.
