LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - The Kentucky Supreme Court has upheld the conviction of a man found guilty in the death of a Kentucky police officer.

In 2024, Byrd was convicted of murder, DUI, and other charges in the 2022 death of London police officer Logan Medlock by a Warren County Jury.

He was sentenced to 20 years in Laurel Circuit Court.

Byrd argued his murder charge should have been amended to vehicular homicide. However, in Thursday’s ruling, the Kentucky Supreme Court found it was “not improper” for him to be convicted of the murder charge.

Byrd drove drunk in October of 2022, and testimony was he went 70 miles per hour in a 35 zone and ran a red light after consuming a lot of beer and whiskey at a friend’s house. He received the jury’s recommended sentence of 20 years on the murder charge.
