BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) - Students at Plano Elementary School shared their heritage with classmates through music, dance and presentations at the school’s fourth annual Culture Fair.
The day began with an assembly featuring cultural dances, a fashion show and a parade of flags. Students in third through sixth grades also gave presentations about their cultures, food, language and traditions with their peers.
English language teacher and event organizer Amanda Klineline said more than 40 students participated, with 34 countries represented.
“Some students present in groups and some students present individually,” Klineline said. “And then I also had quite a few students that participated in our assembly this morning.”
Klineline said the fair gives students an opportunity to learn about places they may not have heard of before.
“As they’re moving through the day, they’re learning about countries from A to V,” she said. “We have Azerbaijan to Vietnam.”
Klineline joined the effort in its second year and now organizes the event, which she said has grown in participation.
“The goal for this event is just to teach other kids about their culture,” Klineline said. “They’re really proud of where their families are from.”
Klineline said she is proud of the work students and staff put into the event and that they are already excited for the fair to return next year.
